One of its members has written articles and been quoted in the Coin Laundry Journal in addition to attending the large coin laundry/dry cleaning convention. In addition, they have performed water analysis on coin laundries for sellers, buyers, SBA Lenders and other brokers. Buyers are generally interested in coin laundries due to the ease of entry and short learning curve for this industry. Over 50% of the coin laundries available are generally absentee owned. Many of these are unattended. Aside from self-service car washes, which are basically real estate deals, it is one of the few industries where one may not be so dependent on employees showing up for work.
Please note that coin laundries for sale that handle a substantial amount of drop-off bundle service (wash and fold) are not conducive to being managed unattended.
Some market areas have a fair amount of competition, including Dallas. To buy a laundry in these areas, one must send out flyers and market the business every year at a minimum due to the transience of these neighborhoods to maintain an influx of current and new customers.
Keep the laundry clean! Adding ancillary services for owner operators can bring in more profit centers, such as alterations, beauty salon, tanning booth, movie rentals, check cashing, cell phone sales, phone card sales, etc. Some laundries close to universities even secure beer & wine permits. Some sell ice cream bars by renting out vending machines, or add vending machines, video games, hot dogs, popcorn, sub sandwiches etc. (need food permit for these.)
